Analysis of film opening
What - Paramount, Lorne Michaels Production, Lindsay Lohan, Rachel McAdams, Mark Waters (director)
when - recent, released 2004
how - Teen drama and comedy.
why - to amuse and entertain the viewers, and to show a stereotypical American high school
sound - natural sounds, sound effects, overlaid soundtrack. Generic soft rock/pop music typical of high-school movies.
camera - wide range of long-shots, mid shots, close ups, extreme close-ups, tracking and establishing shots. Used to easily show the character's emotions and establish their personalities.
mise en scene - Typical high school scene, lots of props (lockers, teens, classrooms). Used to establish setting cinematically.
characters- all fit a high school stereotype: divided between their social groups.
genre - Teen comedy/ drama
narrative - 16-year-old girl on her first day at high school after being home schooled by her parents. she has to learn to adapt to her new way of life.
editing - a mix of slow shots to establish setting and characters, and quick shots to represent the fast moving drama and comedy.
target audience - The target audience for this film is mainly teens and young adults this is because the film is based on school teenagers
overall effects - I think the overall effects of this opening sequence makes the audience see the stereotypical social side to high school life and the teens life out side of the school.
